8.31.11 There are rare and beautiful mushrooms everywhere:
Things are a mess. Trying to sort out the hardware problems and the internet issues but thrilled to have left the 19th century (we've spent the last few days there). Reading by candlelight just doesn't cut it.
Have some wind footage and a couple of other interesting things that I'll edit and make some small something- up soon.
Table 8.28.11 Irene Night
8.26.11 Most people aren't taking this storm serious enough. Long Beach Island is going to get wiped clean. Mark is only about 6' above sea level and 100 yards from a lagoon. Even Danny in Vermont is going to have problems as they are super soaked already. Annmarie, as always it seems, has to go to work at the height of the storm Saturday night (3:00 am). This is the scary part. She might get there and can't get back due to downed trees and no one to replace her. Stuck for days in a blacked out prison sounds like a movie plot. Irene is going to be historic. Charging the cameras to record some of this so we'll have a movie online when the electricity comes back. A paper in NYC had a headline: "What's next, locusts?". We had a tornado this month, an earthquake, all time rain records shattered (that's before the hurricane), terrible lightening storms every other day and now the coup de gras, Irene. Pic of tornado in Brick: This might be the new normal with global warming changing everything. Get used to it. The tomatoes like it and are great this year. Peppers were terrible and Chris and Mary's corn was miserable.
8.25.11 Giant hurricane is next to batter Toopine. This could be the big one with so many over grown trees everywhere that electricity is certain to be down for days. Should be fun if the roof stays on.

8.23.11 Earthquakes in the Pine Barrens? It's the mushrooms.
Great mushrooms at Mary's: Looks like I got a little too close to the shrooms.

8.22.11 Those are Bieling paintings behind that woman.
This long contemplation continues with Table 8.22.11 (no. 202).
8.20.11 Below was smallest pic of biggest sunflower. 15', wow! Crazy mix:
8.18.11 Tallest sunflower I've ever seen:
8.17.11 Plumbing disasters. Ove save me:
The harder you hurled your fist,
The more you were winded and missed.
The elbowing, biting--
There's never fair fighting,
Nor winners, though many persist.
"SUPER" FLYWEIGHT
There once lived a young anti-Thor
That history chose to ignore.
A boxer named Syd,
The unknown "Canvas Kid,"
Was prone to take naps on the floor.
A boxing fan buddy named Bryant
Will side with the short and defiant.
He isn't alone.
This trait is well known.
Not many will root for the giant.
TAG-TEAM BOXING
Round one, two on two, toe to toe,
The action begins, blow by blow.
They punch at the abs
And their jaws between jabs,
We assume. No one sees what they throw.
8.16.11 The 8" of rain we just got should end the drought NJ has been in.
8.14.11 Storms fried part of the server. Zeepo did some surgery and we are back.
8.11.11 Give me an hour.
It's sauce time. The smell of basil, in the darkest days of winter, is simply profound, mixing memory of the past summer with hope for the return of warmth, an optimism- so bag it up. Table 8.11.11:
8.10.11 Teddy Mann has written an autobiography. link to book: I hope Kid Nutty is in it.
8.9.11 Another friend, too young, too much going for her, decided it wasn't worth it and slipped away. It was just a few hundred yards from here in the pines. So long L.S..
W.C. and L.S., that's two sad events within a half mile and a couple of months.
8.5.11 A 4ft. Black Racer at Mary's. Fastest snake imaginable.
8.2.11 Lucky just hobbled past the window. She has lived here for at least three years with a broken front leg and is the boss of a small herd that defers to her suburban survival knowledge. It's funny to see her leading around the troupe that includes a big guy with a huge rack and the tiniest fawns imaginable. Got to get a pic.
8.1.11 What was I thinking? Table 8.1.11 (no.198): Ove likes to work out his gulliver:
A solved intellectual snag!
I'm not one who's likely to brag.
I proudly admit,
While having a fit,
I fought my way out of a bag. <:D
Feel proud if you're second to none,
But you don't have to be Number One.
Be glad you're obsessed
With giving your best--
A fine way to get that job done.
Immortal, I foolishly reckoned
I'd survive every risk that had beckoned.
Each move that we make
Is a chance we must take
Of losing our all in a second.
When sadness is deeper than tears,
The memory shortens the years.
When few can relate
To evil so great,
It's hard to find juries of peers.
That's what 198 tables look like. It's a measure, eventually there will be a last Table. (...losing our all in a second.) That's what an Ove looks like. (...malefaction so great,).
Later. Flowers found. Table 8.1.11b: |
